David Culpin

David Culpin

David Culpin is Reader in French and Head of Department at the University of St Andrews. He specializes in the literature of ideas and the history of the book in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and is also interested in the reception of early-modern French texts in anglophone colonial contexts. His publications include Marivaux and Reason (1993), La Rochefoucauld: Maximes (1995) as well as critical editions of Marivaux’s Le Jeu de l’amour et du hasard (2000) and Perrault’s Les Hommes illustres qui ont paru en France pendant ce siècle (2003). David Culpin is currently writing a book on French moralists and travel writers of the first half of the eighteenth century.
